The impact of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake was enormous especially in Death Tolls
According to the countries National Disaster Relief Coordination Agency 126,915 people died (2005). An additional 37,063 are missing with the families grieving for the worst. The UN stated in 2005 that there were 665,000 people homeless living in refugee camps in many countries including Indonesia, Thailand, India and Sri Lanka.
Now, according to the US Geological Survey (2011) the toll was estimated to be more than 225,000 people killed and over 50,000 missing, making this earthquake on of the 10 worst earthquakes in history and the single worst tsunami in history. Out of the 225,000 people killed, Indonesia was the worst effected at 170,000. Relief agencies also reported that one third of the deceased were children and at least 9,000 were tourists (mainly European).
Traditionally, relatives of the deceased were supposed to be buried but because of the tsunami/earthquake so many bodies were missing. This caused huge amounts of physical trauma through out the nation. Foreign aid relief have had to treat the Women in Aceh for this and the women still need special treatment.
